The Colorado Office of the State Public Defender is organized into twenty-one regional trial offices, an appellate office, and a state administrative office.

The State Public Defender is appointed by the Public Defender Commission to run the system and oversee all twenty-three offices. She appoints managing attorneys for each trial and appellate office who select an office manager and, in some offices, a Chief Investigator.

The State Public Defender selects a senior management team, which includes a First Assistant and three Chief Deputies. Additionally, she appoints chiefs and directors to oversee departments within the State Administrative Office, such as Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance, Investigations, Office Management, Social Work Programs, Paralegal Services, and Training.
