The Colorado Office of the State Public Defender is organized into twenty-one regional trial offices, an appellate office, and a state administrative office.

The State Public Defender is appointed by the Public Defender Commission to run the system and oversee all twenty-three offices. She appoints managing attorneys for each trial and appellate office who select an office manager and, in some offices, a Chief Investigator.

The State Public Defender also selects a senior management team comprised of a First Assistant and three Chief Deputies. She appoints various chiefs and directors to run OSPD’s departments within the State Administrative Office including Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance, Investigations, Office Management, Social Work programming, Paralegal practice, and Training.
