SMART Act

Pursuant to the State Measurement for Accountable, Responsive, and Transparent (SMART) Government Act, the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender (OSPD) reports annually to the Joint House and Senate Judiciary committees concerning the OSPD Performance Plan. This enables the legislature to provide oversight and give guidance and direction in the development of OSPD policies and programs. According to the SMART Act, OSPD is required to:

  • Develop a Performance Management System, a formal system of managing the processes and operations of the department which includes the annual budget process
  • Appear before the assigned standing interim committee and present: The Department’s Performance Plan and Budget Request and Legislative Agenda for upcoming regular legislative session
  • Publish an Annual Performance Report

Annual Juvenile Performance Report

Pursuant to HB 14-1032, OSPD is required to report the following juvenile information annually to the Judiciary Committees of the House of Representatives and Senate.
